Nationwide Emergency Alert System Test

As part of our ongoing efforts to keep our country and communities safe during emergencies, we’re working in partnership with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to conduct the first nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). The EAS test plays a key role in ensuring the nation is prepared for any type of hazard, and that the U.S. public can receive critical and vital information should it ever be needed.

Over the past year, our agencies have been working with the broadcast community, cable operators and programmers, and other communications service providers that participate in the Emergency Alert System; our state, local, tribal, and territorial partners; and other critical stakeholders to help inform all members of the public regarding the nationwide Emergency Alert System test.

Here are specific items we want everyone to know about the test:

• It will be conducted Wednesday, November 9 at 2:00 PM EST.
• It will be transmitted via television and radio stations within the U.S., including Alaska, Hawaii, the territories of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.
• Similar to local emergency alert system tests, an audio message will interrupt television and radio programming indicating: “This is a test.”
• When the test is over, regular programming will resume.

As we get close to the test, the FCC and all of our many partners are working together to spread the word to as many members of the public as possible -- so people know what to expect when the test takes place, and no one is caught off guard. We're asking everyone to join us by spreading the word to your neighbors, co-workers, friends and family -- share this web page, post a message on your social media site, and feel free to embed our videos on your website or blog.

DOD Identifies Army Casualty

IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 934-11 November 04, 2011

DOD Identifies Army Casualty      The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation New Dawn.      1st Lt. Dustin D. Vincent, 25, of Mesquite, Texas, died Nov. 3, in Kirkuk province, Iraq, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his unit with small arms fire.  He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

Mayor of Buffalo Shows how out of touch he really is

(Erie County, Buffalo, NY) Yesterday afternoon, Mayor of Buffalo, NY Byron Brown is holding a job fair with the hopes that 1200 jobs are filled. In a report from WIVB-TVposted on their website, we see Gieco mentioned and Western New York Immediate Care and Embassy Suites.

Unfortunately for job seekers, Gieco offers great benefits but their hiring process is a twelve step, exhaustive process that can prompt the applicant to really think about their choice, "Do I really want to do this?" A twelve step process is very unusual, and is negative against those whom have to make arrangements or take a bus to the to the company location in Amherst.

Buffalo, NY constantly has job fairs, what does this mean? Does this mean that the employers can not keep good employees (management issue) or is it just window dressing to make a company look better then they really are? The Buffalo Destroyers were actively advertising for employees right up until the day they packed the moving van and trucked down the 90.

Is Buffalo, NY hosting a job fair to make the City of Buffalo look like it is more successful then tehy really are? Gieco is not in Buffalo and neither is Immediate Care.

Job fair is scheduled for next Thursday 10 am until 6 pm at the Buffalo Museum of Science on Humbuldt Parkway. Good news, round trip, individuals from Northern Erie County will only have to take four buses and 2 hours  to get to and home from the job fair. Too bad we could not have had the Job Fair in a central location like downtown.

Tucson Border Patrol’s Weekend Marijuana Seizures Net 3 Loads Worth Nearly $1 Million

Tucson, Ariz. - Border Patrol agents assigned to the Tucson Sector, a component of the Joint Field Command-Arizona, seized more than 1,900 pounds of marijuana worth approximately $995,500 during three weekend incidents.

Casa Grande agents working with Office of Air and Marine and infrared detection assets responded to an area where 12 subjects were seen carrying large backpacks into the United States. As agents arrived, the helicopter crew observed all 12 subjects abscond back to Mexico. Agents searched the area and found 10 bundles of abandoned marijuana weighing more than 500 pounds and worth roughly $257,000.

On Saturday, a Willcox Station canine team working the primary inspection lane at the State Route 80 checkpoint alerted to a vehicle that agents later discovered was transporting 95 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated $47,500. Agents found 20 bundles of marijuana hidden in a non-factory compartment under the truck’s bed. The driver was apprehended and is awaiting prosecution on smuggling charges. The vehicle and marijuana were seized for processing.

Sunday, an all terrain unit from the Ajo Station was patrolling in the West Desert east of the Lukeville Port and discovered footprints belonging to a possible group of illegal immigrants leading north from the border. Agents tracked the footprints to a bundle of marijuana hidden under some rocks at the top of a mountain. During an extensive search of the surrounding area, agents found an additional 29 bundles.
